Fusarium Crown and Foot Root
Fusarium spp.

Last updated
Fusarium causes damping-off and root rot on conifers in bareroot nurseries, particularly following warm weather. Use well-drained soil, condition seeds properly, rotate with non-susceptible crops, and disinfect containers if reusing. The disease is worse in poorly drained beds where soil moisture stays high continuously.
Management depends on catching it early. Scout susceptible plants regularly and remove affected tissue before the pathogen can spread. Improve growing conditions by addressing drainage, spacing, and irrigation practices. For persistent or severe cases, contact your local Master Gardener program or Extension office for treatment options specific to your host plants.
