Root-knot nematodes cause stunting, poor overall growth, and characteristic root knot abnormalities visible when digging and inspecting roots. No effective chemical solution is available for home gardeners in the region. Use resistant varieties when available, rotate crops with non-host plants, and avoid moving infested soil.

Avoid sites with high soil populations of ring nematodes. Preplanting the future orchard site with winter wheat followed by fallow have helped reduce populations.
