Sea thrift is a compact, tufted evergreen perennial forming dense, grass-like mounds of narrow leaves topped with globe-shaped clusters of pink to rose flowers on wiry stems from spring through early summer. Native to coastal regions of Europe and North America, it reaches six to twelve inches tall and thrives in lean, well-drained soils.

Grow in full sun in well-drained to dry soil. Sea thrift is naturally adapted to poor, sandy, or rocky conditions and does not perform well in rich, moist garden soil where it tends to rot. Excellent for rock gardens, border edges, and coastal plantings. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage repeat bloom. Few pest or disease issues; crown rot in wet soils is the primary concern.
