Hart's tongue fern is a distinctive evergreen fern with undivided, strap-shaped fronds that are glossy and leathery, quite unlike the typical dissected fern frond. Native to limestone-rich habitats across Europe, eastern North America, and parts of Asia, the fronds can reach twelve to eighteen inches long, arching gracefully from a central crown. Non-flowering (reproduces by spores).

Grow in partial to full shade in moist, well-drained soil with a neutral to alkaline pH. Add lime if soil is acidic. Protect from harsh winter winds. The unique, tongue-like fronds provide strong textural contrast with typical ferns and shade perennials.
