Leyland cypress (× Cupressocyparis leylandii, Cupressaceae) is an intergeneric hybrid between Monterey cypress and Nootka cypress, first occurring at Leighton Hall, Wales, when the two parent species were planted in proximity. It is not known in the wild. The tree grows extremely fast (up to 1 meter per year), reaching 65 feet or more with a narrow columnar form and slightly overhanging branch tips.

Leyland cypress grows in sun to part shade on moist soils (pH 4.5 to 8.5), hardy in Zones 6a to 10b. Its rapid growth makes it popular for privacy screening, though mature size can become problematic. No significant pest or disease issues are documented in the profile. Cultivars include 'Gold Rider' (golden foliage), 'Castlewellan' (golden), 'Emerald Isle,' 'Silver Dust' (variegated), 'Naylor,' 'Robinson,' and 'Star Wars.'
