Wild strawberry (Fragaria vesca, Rosaceae) is a perennial from the temperate Northern Hemisphere (Europe and North America), spreading by runners to form low mats. Light green trifoliate leaves with toothed margins give rise to small white flowers with yellow centers from May through August, followed by small, intensely flavored edible fruit.

Wild strawberry grows in sun to part shade with moderate water needs, hardy in Zones 5 to 9. It spreads by stolons and self-seeds readily. It is deer-tolerant. Maintenance is medium. No significant pest or disease associations are documented in the profile. Alpine strawberry (F. vesca 'Alpine') is a non-runner selection grown for continuous fruiting. The profile is a stub awaiting enrichment.
