Mahonia eurybracteata (Berberidaceae) is a deciduous shrub native to China. It grows 4 to 5 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide with dense, multi-stemmed growth. Gold to yellow flowers appear in late fall to early winter, an unusual bloom season for the genus.

Chinese barberry grows in sun to part shade on well-drained soil (pH 6.0 to 8.0). It tolerates deer, pollution, and urban conditions. The cultivar 'Soft Caress' features finely textured, non-spiny foliage. Hardy in Zones 7a to 10b.
