Salvia x superba is a widely grown hybrid sage of unknown parentage, first appearing in cultivation in Europe. It produces dense spikes of deep blue to violet flowers from late spring through summer on clump-forming plants. The hybrid is sterile and does not set viable seed but propagates easily from cuttings.

This hybrid is hardy to USDA zones 5a-9a and prefers full sun to light shade with well-drained soil. It is drought-tolerant once established and attracts pollinators. Multiple cultivars with selections for flower color, bloom timing, and plant height are available in the nursery trade.
