Small-fruited bulrush is a sedge in the Cyperaceae family native to wetlands across North America. It is a rhizomatous, herbaceous perennial reaching 1-3 feet tall with three-sided stems and small, inconspicuous flowers clustered into spikelets. The fruit is very small, hence the species name.

This species thrives in wet to boggy soils and tolerates seasonal flooding and persistent moisture. It spreads via rhizomes and is useful for wetland restoration and management of rain gardens. The plant provides shelter and food for wetland wildlife.
